HUNTER PRAISED: The Aug. 26 edition of The Dover (Mass.)
Tab carried a full-page story extolling Sara Hoagland Hunter for her authorship
of The Unbreakable Code; a conversation between a Navajo boy and his
grandfather forms the vehicle for a true story of how the Navajos were used
by the U.S. government, during World War II, to create a secret code that
the Japanese were unable to decipher. The Smithsonian listed her book as a
1996 Notable Book for Children, and this summer it won the Western Writers
of America's Spur Award in the children's category. Sara has written six books
since 1995. For Jim Henson Productions she did Miss Piggy's Night Out,
a whimsical tale chronicling Miss Piggy's quest to become a star, and last
year two books for Warner Brothers, based on Looney Tunes characters: Beauty
and the Feast, featuring Bugs Bunny and the Tasmanian Devil, and The
Good, the Bad, and the Tweety, featuring a lovable bird and a hungry,
hapless cat. Last year she also published Rondo's Stuff, based on the
Nickelodeon television show for preschoolers earlier this year. She also has
written lyrics of 20 songs on a compact disc, entitled Born to Sing,
parodies of Mother Goose rhymes, sung by "baby Looney Tunes" characters.
